Mostar, the city on the Neretva River, is a symbol of cultural diversity and resilience. Its most famous symbol, the Old Bridge (Stari most), was built in 1566 during the Ottoman Empire and represents a masterpiece of Islamic-Ottoman architecture. After being destroyed during the war in 1993, the bridge was carefully restored using original techniques and materials and reopened in 2004.

The city was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2005, and the Old Bridge and Old Town represent a unique example of centuries-old cultural exchange between East and West. The Mostar bazaar (Kujundžiluk) is one of the best-preserved Ottoman trading quarters in the Balkans, full of workshops of local craftsmen producing copper products, carpets, and traditional knives.

Besides the Old Bridge, there are numerous other landmarks: the Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque with its beautiful minaret offering panoramic views of the city, Turkish houses with their gardens and courtyards, and the Herzegovina Museum documenting the rich history of the region.

Mostar is also famous for its traditional bridge jumpers (mostari), who compete each year in jumps from the 24-meter high bridge into the cold waters of the Neretva. This custom is over 450 years old and represents a test of courage and skill.
